WHAT IS A KIRKBRIDE? Welcome to Architecture of the State. This website is dedicated to the grand architecture of Kirkbride style hospitals and asylums, but also touches on other buildings like State Schools, Sanitariums, and other civic buildings. Some of the buildings are still in use today, others are closed, some are abandoned, and others unfortunately have been demolished. Make sure to check out our popular aerial photo gallery.
I currently live in Maynard, Massachusetts with my wife Michelle and a cat named Clyde. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of New Hampshire with bachelor degrees in Fine Art and English.
